I hear a lot of people saying “I’m woke”, but what does it really mean?
How can you tell if you’re actually leading?
A few days ago, CEO’s took part in a CEO initiative, aimed at bringing to light social issues in an attempt to attract attention and find solutions. But I’m wondering if these CEO’s are only taking a stand for human rights, the environment, etc., because their desire is to be viewed positively by the public. Does acting in this manner give their revenue stream a boost? I’m certain that it doesn’t hurt. This makes me question the sincerity of their efforts.
Remain humble or you will be humbled…
As a leader, there will come a day when you have to fire someone. It’s not pretty and certainly isn’t something that many people are comfortable doing. Unfortunately, I’ve had to do this several times and it never gets easier. Mostly it’s because we’re human and inherently, a lot of us want to see the good in everyone. We also don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings. Yet, people underperform, everyday and people get fired, everyday. I’ll offer 5 ways to ease the process.
Give a listen to this interesting and entertaining interview by Mr. T. Pay close attention to what he is saying about fear around the 11:39 mark and then when David Letterman asks him a question about needing a bodyguard at the 11:55 mark.
Ever hear the saying that some people talk just to hear themselves talk? It’s really bad when that person thinks that talking a lot makes them a good leader.
This is a reblog of a post from a couple of years ago. It’s still pertinent today, maybe even more than ever…
When I was in college, almost every class had an element of working in groups or figuring out something within a team. I can’t tell you how many times I cringed, when I heard the professor describing the project and giving the criteria for grades. My issue? I was a pretty good student, obsessively driven to get an A in each class. I worked harder than most and didn’t want my grade to be reflective of folks who weren’t “putting in the work”. Continue reading to see how I survived.
Ever hear people say that you’ve lost focus? I’m sure it’s probably happened to you every now and then. It’s certainly happened to me. It’s part of being human. But saying that we’ve lost focus isn’t exactly right. We’ve just become re-focused onto something else.
I haven’t written anything in a while. I took a long break from sharing my thoughts here and it’s made me gain a new level of respect for a few things, relative to life and leadership.
