God loves you and is there to help. This does not only apply to when you have a big goal to reach, this also applies when you are resisting temptations. This happened to me yesterday. I was tempted to do something wrong, I prayed and asked God to lift it from me. But then, the temptation only became stronger.
At one point I gave up and said, “screw it, I’ll just do it, no one will know and I’m not hurting anyone”. I was resigned to that, until something clicked in my brain. I don’t know what it was, but it was something that reminded me of this verse;
1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
The Holy Spirit perhaps? Anyway, it made me totally switch my thought pattern and the urge subsided.
So, my sin doesn’t start with the act, it starts with my thought life. As the “boss in the middle” of this spiritual battle, I need to be aware of my thoughts and triggers.
I truly believe that my prayer earlier in the day kept me from sinning later.
