3 Reasons to Respect Strangers

img_0259You never know who God will place in your path. In our daily lives, we probably interact with strangers more than our loved ones. At work, the bus stop, market, airport, etc., we are connected to people who are moving through this world at a rapid pace. No one knows the mind of a stranger. People have no idea who a person is or where they came from, which is why parents tell children to stay away. But the fact is, they are people with feelings and experiences. God knows this and if you are in tune with Him, he will guide you through these meetings and create some amazing experiences. The key is respecting them at all times. Here’s 3 reasons why.

1. Smiling, being courteous, polite, etc., can impact someone’s life forever. Sometimes these interactions lead to life-changing conversations. Talking about your job, family, life story, or dreams could give hope to the spirit of someone who needs it most.

2. Maybe your attitude is just what that person needed to get through the day. The person next to you might have just gotten some bad news. Your smile or compliment could lift them up. Your conversation could motivate them. They may motivate you.

3. Sometimes, we are more open with complete strangers, than we are with people we know because we believe we will never see them again. This type of honesty can lead to some of the most impactful moments of your life. Don’t miss this opportunity!

The point here is simple, you can impact others by simply being polite and courteous, as opposed to being how you “feel”. You may be tired, grumpy or angry, but it isn’t fair to take it out on strangers by being rude to them or ignoring them. If you feel that bad, maybe the best thing to do is say nothing at all. Nobody wants to hear all of your problems.  It will take practice, as reading the situation is sort of an art. Sometimes, people just don’t want to be bothered and that’s fine. Maybe a courteous act, like letting them go first in line, is enough. If you can make it a habit to act unselfishly, you will learn to interact with strangers in a way that not only encourages them, but allows you to grow through the experience as well.
